The building itself is on the National Historic Register, and this is the oldest operating hotel in Colorado. It is located in Lower Downtown Denver (LoDo) which means it is within walking distance of many restaurants, bars, and other attractions. I was married here many years ago and this hotel holds a special place in my heart.
The Oxford is well known to downtown and midtown Denv... [more]erites for several reasons. The Oxford contains The Cruise Room, the softly lit bar modeled after the Queen Mary. The hotel also boasts both McCormicks, a fine restaurant specializing in seafood and its rowdier McCormick's Bar and Grill. Some of the best food in Denver can be acquired here.
The hotel has a nicely equipped gym, which is open to membership for well-heeled Denverites, and also has a full service beauty salon.
The Oxford is restored to its Victorian glory, with lots of well cared for wood paneling. It's quite a small hotel and the decor is much more tasteful than downtown's other Victorian era hotel: subdued elegance. The rooms are large by today's standards and each one is furnished with individual antique pieces: not a bit of particle board to be found. The staff is quite attentive and friendly.
The facilities here are catered exclusively by what I consider to be Denver's best caterers: Epicurean. If I ever have to organize a business conference, or come back home to visit, I will choose The Oxford. [less]
