Stayed with my wife at the Essex hotel on the last night of our trip to Florida and we were pretty surprised the hotel was not up to above average standards. The rooms smelt of smoke heavily and the bed spread had iron marks on it. Then the next day they were doing lots of construction in the hallway, so it made it quite noisy in the morning. Overall, I felt the hotel to be very average. There is convenient parking located near by the hotel, which is good if you have a car.

I have stayed here many times over the years and the staff always remebers me when I come back. Thce servie is wonderful and the location couldn't be better. Though not right on the ocean they do feature ma small quaint pool and it is only 1 block away from the hottest part of the Miami strip(restaurants/clubs/shopping). Not to mention only a few blocks away from my favorite place to eat The News Cafe.

The regular rooms are small BUT ask for one of the suites(not much more $)and you will find yourself in a beautiful suite with a huge bathroom(including 2 person jacuzzi tub and a tv) and a spacious sitting area with a wet bar that faces a small court yard.

You would think for how much money they make they could at least paint the room. Room was filthy with furniture old and in disrepair.Hotel in nice area with a nice reception area but thats it. Hallways dingy and worn.I took my date there and she asked to leave.

The hotel is in a very convenient location, close to the beach and to the South Beach night life. Hotel staff was helpful and rooms were clean and reasonably comfortable.

I absolutely loved the Essex House Hotel. It is located in the mix of South Beach with lots of retaurants and shopping at your doorstep. The Clevlander, the hotel right next door can get loud (all night), but if you are a heavy sleeper (which you should be partying in Miami), then it won't bother you at all. Friendly staff, continental breakfast and reasonable rates were superb. Highly recommended!

This Art Deco hotel could stand a freshening up and some more soundproofing. Public areas such as the lobby and small pool are nice, but our room had some maintenance problems, including rotting wall next to bath, and a stained carpet. Certainly not worth rack rates and borderline at anything more than $110 a night; there are better choices in the district or South Beach.
