we liked the way it overlooked madison ave. the place oozed with class...from the elderly gentleman running the elevator,to the doorbell at at our door. my wife and i recommend it to everyone. we have stayed at all the big ones, from the waldorf in n.y. to the fairmont in sf. aint nothing like the helmsley in n.y.

Ideally located for guests at Madison Avenue and East 61st Street, the Helmsley Carlton House Hotel enjoys a privileged spot next to Barney's, one of the world's best department stores. What's more, the famously named hotel stands close to many of New York's finest shops, which delight patrons with clothing, jewelry, linens, silverware, crystal, enamel and gemstone pendants, and everything Givenchy, Chanel, Valentino, Hermès, Armani and Ungaro. Only a block east, the 843 acre Central Park's meadows, woodlands, ravines, gardens, paths and lakes offer guests popular walking and running routes, rowboat and bicycle rentals, gondola rides, skating and other recreational opportunities.

The Helmsley also is close to Museum Mile, where history buffs can revel among exhibits, paintings and artifacts.
