By Hidden Vacations User from Boston Ma • Not the most helpful hotel
Overall Rating: 4 Location [2] • Room [8] • Service [2] • Value [2] Stayed here with a car because we wanted to see the Museum of Moving Images. There is no parking and it is a dicey neighborhood to leave a car out overnight. It is in the midst of junkyards and warehouses. In the daytime the front desk rings you in and out and after dark they add a guard at the door. You do not feel very secure. Family members seem to run the hotel, they are correct but not the friendly helpful staff you associate with an American chain. They could not help with directions to the museum ,in fact, had never heard of it. When asked if we could leave luggage we were told yes but the charge was $10 for the first bag and $5 for the others. They have a 48 hour cancellation policy and all in all are not very hospitable. At $106 I could have done as well in Manhatten. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By bugsamuck from Austin, TX • Great location/price for NYC
Overall Rating: 10 Location [10] • Room [8] • Service [10] • Value [10] The 5 stars reflect value for NYC, not value anywhere else. The staff (especially Dwane) was very helpful. The room size is OK---small by normal standards. Everything in the room worked. The high-speed internet in the room didn't work, but the wireless in the lobby worked great, plus there is a computer on the first floor (note about this hotel: the elevator---just 1---is slow. The staircases don't connect to every lower floor, so you end up walking the halls a bunch). What we really like is the convenience to almost every subway line---we could be on Broadway in about 15 minutes, yet we were paying a LOT less than hotels on Manhatten. There is a lot of fun around---many fast foods between the hotel and the subway lines, and some nicer (but nothing upscale) places over by the CitiBank building (a great tall landmark about 6 blocks away). There are several small convenience stores that cover most needs near the subway entrances. Overall, a great location at an acceptable price with a staff that works hard to please. Overall Rating: 10 Location [8] • Room [10] • Service [8] • Value [8] We loved this hotel.
Its ideal if you want a hotel with everything at great price but dont mind travelling a little to the centre. The subway is only 2 minutes walk away and takes u direct to Times Square/Manhttan in 15 mins. There are plenty of restaraunts across the road including a 24hr Macdonalds next door and a petrol station/mini supermarket.
In the day we went shopping via subway and at night we went out clubbing. This is a newly built hotel, so everything was spotless, clean bathroom with big mirror and great lighting for applying make up!
The subway is 24hrs but less frequent at night, so we used subway in the day for shopping and taxis when going out at night, which is only $12 to Manhattan.
Breakfast buffet is included in this hotel which was ideal.
You wont get a hotel of this quality for this price in Manhttan. Its def worth the travel! Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By Hidden Vacations User from Atlanta, GA • Don't pass this one up!
Overall Rating: 8 Location [8] • Room [10] • Service [10] • Value [8] The staff here went above and beyond the call of duty to make our stay memorable and fun! Our first room was a little tight but a next day transfer to a corner room made all the difference. This was a clean, comfortable hotel and the location was ideal for catching a train to Manhattan or the other boroughs or if not your thing, taxis were easily flagged down less than a block away. The beds were firm, the pillows fluffy and the bathrooms spotless. TV reception was a little fuzzy but who goes to NYC to watch TV? Not I said the fly!
Great little diner around the corner (The Court Square). Don't be intimidated by the wide selection, just order! The soups were all delicious, great sandwiches and a surprisingly tasty chicken picata (whoda thunkit?)
All in all a hidden gem and the price was right. I'll be back! Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By drlynne69 from Houston, TX • Highly recommended!
Overall Rating: 8 Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [10] • Value [8] This hotel was very nice, clean and comfortable. The rooms were small. We were on the 7th floor and the elevator broke twice so we had to climb, got our exercise for the day! Breakfast was nice, the breakfast charge lady was extremely helpful and nice. Nice and close to the subway station very easy to find our way around. Although a rough looking neighbourhood we still felt safe even coming back at midnight or later most of the time. Very helpful staff. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By Hidden Vacations User from Cambridge, MD • This is our Go-To Hotel in NY
Overall Rating: 8 Location [6] • Room [8] • Service [8] • Value [10] My husband and I make regular trips to NY and have stayed at this property five times. It is located 1/2 a block from the N, W and 7 trains and is the first stop in Queens from Manhattan. It is so conveniently located.
The hotel doesn't have it's own garage, however, there is ample on-street parking near-by. The staff has always been very kind and helpful. It is comfortable and always clean. The rooms are nicely sized (not like in the city). Other guests we've spoken with also believe this hotel to be a hidden charm! Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By • Good for the Price
Overall Rating: 8 This hotel is a good deal. You get what you pay for in terms of the size of the room - it's pretty small. But it was very clean. The building looked new or newly remodeled. The staff was helpful when we had problems. They had a basic continental breakfast, a small fitness room, and a shared computer for internet access. The area isn't as bad as some may make you think; it is a little run down though. The view of a scrapyard from our window wasn't the best. The subway and a small mini-market is conveniently right around the corner. We parked our car on the street for free with no problems. There is a secured parking lot 2 blocks away for $11 / day. Overall Rating: 8 Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [8] • Value [8] | Close to subway, convenient to Manhattan, 1/2 the price | | none |
The staff were friendly & extremely helpful. The hotel is only 5 minutes from Manhattan but the price is so much cheaper than being in Manhattan. I stayed during the first week in December and prices everywhere were outrageous! The rooms are a little small but comfortable all the same Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | |
