Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary

Description

Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary is located at the banks of Herring Cove in Ketchikan and borders the magnificent Tongass National Rainforest. Visitors enjoy walking through the rainforest and observing the wildlife surrounding them. Many birds and animals co-exist here in a pristine natural environment. Eagles, bear, seals and many other creatures are attracted to the major salmon runs in this marine estuary. The Sanctuary is also home for Alaska Reindeer. Visitors can interact and feed these gentle creatures.

In addition to the wildlife exploration, visitors have the opportunity to observe a master native totem pole carver at work. After that, they will be guided through the historic Herring Bay Lumber Company sawmill, established by legendary pioneer Ben Fleenor and receive a sample of aromatic local Alaskan cedar.
