Coconino National ForestDescriptionThe Coconino National Forest is one of the most diverse National Forests in the country with flat-lying rocks and sheer-walled canyons in the nothern part and hot desert basins and rugged mountains in the southern part. It is located in central Arizona in the vicinity of Flagstaff. The Coconino Forest is made up of four districts, each with their own unique flavor.
Peaks District features high-country mountain forests and meadows. Mormon Lake District is wide-open spaces, dotted with lakes. Mogollon Rim District consists of lush forests on the edge of the Mogollon Rim. Red Rock District features famous red-rock canyons and Oak Creek. Visitors of the Coconino National Forest can climb Humphreys Peak, the highest mountain in Arizona, fish in crystal-clear lakes, swim in desert creeks under red rock cliffs, or ski through parks and meadows and ponderosa pines.
