Cathedral of Our Lady of the AngelsDescriptionThe Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels is located in the midst of downtown Los Angeles bound by Temple Street, Grand Avenue, Hill Street and the Hollywood Freeway. The Cathedral replaced the smaller former Cathedral of Saint Vibiana, which was severely damaged in the 1994 Northridge Earthquake.
The ultracontemporary cathedral was designed by award-winning Spanish architect Jose Rafael Moneo. It features more than 6,000 crypts and niches, Mission-style colonnades, biblically inspired gardens, and numerous artworks created by world-acclaimed artists. The bronze entry doors, created by sculptor Robert Graham, are decorated with multicultural icons and New World images of the Virgin Mary.
