Balboa ParkDescriptionThis urban park, located just minutes away from downtown San Diego, is made up of more than 1000 acres. Unlike some other parks which are mostly free of buildings in favor of open space and recreational fields, Balboa Park is a cultural complex. It hosts 15 museums, renowned performing arts venues, beautiful gardens and the famous San Diego Zoo.
Many attractions are located along El Prado, a long promenade running through the center of the park. Most of the houses lining El Prado are in the Spanish Revival style. Originally they were constructed for the 1915–1916 Panama-California Exposition. Balboa Park is also well-known for its brilliant displays of seasonal flowers and shady groves of trees. The park has been declared a National Historic Landmark.
Entrance FeeEntrance to the park grounds is free. Admission prices for museums and other park organizations depend on institution. Free Tuesdays: Park organizations offer free admission on a rotating basis throughout the month.
