San Diego Zoo DescriptionThis world-famous San Diego Zoo is home to nearly 4,000 animals of some 800 diverse species. Animals live in habitats that replicate natural environments as closely as possible. The flora in the zoo, with many rare species, is even more costly than the fauna. The funny pandas may be the most popular attraction, but the zoo houses many other rare species: Buerger's tree kangaroos of New Guinea, long-billed kiwis from New Zealand, lowland gorillas from Africa, and giant tortoises from the Galapagos. More than a park, this zoo is a major research facility although it is cleverly disguised with entertaining shows and inspiring exhibits.
