ChinatownDescriptionSan Francisco's Chinatown occupies approximately 24 blocks. It is the largest and the oldest Chinatown in North-America. Established in the 1850s, it has been featured in literature and fims. The Waverly Place of Chinatown is certainly worth a visit. This street is also known as the "street of painted balconies". Three temples are located in the Waverly Place.
Another famous and much-photographed place is the corner of California and Grant, which features picturesque pagoda-roofed buildings. Other places of interest: Sing Chong Building, Bank of America decorated with gold dragons, and Bank of Canton (former Chinese Telephone Exchange). There are many nice restaurants, cafes and shops. In Herbal Shop, for example, the ingredients for Chinese medicine can be purchased.
