Everglades National Park

Description

Guests of the 1.5-million-acre park will see the stunning diversity of plants and animals. Everglades National Park is a unique ecosystem. It consists of vast saw-grass prairies, deep mangrove swamps, subtropical jungle, and the warm waters of Florida Bay. Everglades is home to many endangered species, such as the American crocodile, Florida panther, and West Indian manatee. The best way to explore the park is to rent a boat or canoe and paddle around the inland channels and ponds.

Vehicle - $10
Individuals - $5
(Per-person fee for individuals 17 years of age or older when entering by foot, bicycle, motorcycle, buses carrying passengers not on a pre-packaged tours).

Operating Hours & Seasons

Main entrance:
Open daily, 24 hours a day. The Visitor Center is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Shark Valley:
Open daily, 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Visitor Center is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Gulf Coast Visitor Center:
Open daily, November to April 16 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and April 17 to November 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Getting There

From the Miami area take the Florida Turnpike (Route 821) south until it ends, merging with U.S. 1 at Florida City. Turn right at the first traffic light onto Palm Drive (State Road 9336/SW 344th St.) and follow the signs to the park.
