Ybor City

Description

Ybor City is Tampa's Latin quarter with antique-brick streets and wrought-iron balconies. It is located near downtown Tampa. The district is named for cigar factory owner Vincente M. Ybor. His factory was moved to this place in 1886. Other manufacturers of hand-rolled cigars soon followed. In the late 1800s and early 1900s many Cuban and Italian immigrants came to Ybor City to work in the area's many cigar factories. Today, Ybor City is a shopping, dining and entertainment district. It is one of only three National Historic Landmark districts in Florida.
