 Nestled in the heart of the Panaewa Forest Reserve south of Hilo, Panaewa Rainforest Zoo is home to some 50 species of animals from rainforests around the globe - Sumatran tigers, Brazilian tapirs, and rare pygmy hippopotamus. Free admission.

 Pacific Tsunami Museum serves as a living memorial to those who lost their lives in past tsunami events. Visitors can learn many interesting facts about tsunamis. The museum includes an interactive computer center, a science room, a theater, a replica of Old Hilo Town, and a keiki (children's) corner.
