Idaho Black History MuseumThere are a lot of exhibits you can visit in our museum. For example, our new exhibit, The Invisible Idahoan: 200 Years of Blacks in Idaho, details the substantial contributions African Americans have made to the laws, culture and society of Idaho. Idaho's unique and storied history is peppered with accounts of black homesteaders, politicians, religious groups, artists and musicians, as well as peacemakers. Their contributions have often gone unnoticed—until now.
Opening in July 2005, part II of The Invisible Idahoan (1919-1968) continues the story of blacks in Idaho, chronicling the struggles and triumphs of Idaho African Americans through the Depression, World War II and the Civil Rights Movement.
In in January 2006 we will conclude our examination of The Invisible Idahoan (1968-Present), examining how the growing African American population in Idaho impacted and affected just about every corner of our society, including education, commerce and politics. Interesting, isn't it?
