The Stockade Bed & BreakfastDescriptionThe Stockade is a large Spanish style hacienda, located near downtown Baton Rouge. It was named after the Union stockade that occupied the site during the Civil War, and there is still a reminder of the guarded entrance standing near the road. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as an archeological site.
Ther are 5 comfortable guest rooms at the Stockade. All rooms are tastefully decorated. The Escape, painted by local artist Christy Liffman, is a large guestroom, offering a queen size canopy bed, a twin trundle day bed and a private bath. Located in the rear corner of the home, the Rex Room features sitting area, a king size bed, a private bath and a queen sleeper sofa for families.
The Red Room and the Blue Room on the second floor can create an excellent suite, if desired, but can be used separately as well. The Blue Room is furnished with a queen size bed and features a private balcony for relaxing. The Red Room has 2 twin beds and adjoins the Blue Room on the second floor. The shared bath has a tub/shower combination. (Note: If just the Blue Room is desired, the Red Room will not be rented to maintain a private bath). The Welch Room, the third room on the second floor, features a king size, four-poster bed and country French armoire and a private bath.
Breakfast is served in the lovely Dining Room of antiques with John Gould hummingbird prints, botanical prints from the Temple of Flora collection by Robert John Thornton and antique collectible menus. Two options are available: Continental Breakfast (fresh fruit, banana nut muffins, cereal, orange juice and coffee) and Full Southern Breakfast (garlic cheese grits, egg souffle, hickory smoked bacon, biscuits/croissants, orange juice, and coffee). Special dietary requirements can also be arranged. The Dining Room is available for luncheons, meetings and private dinner parties.
The Great Room, located in the center of the house, has a large wood-burning fireplace. A floor-to-ceiling glass wall looks out onto one of two outdoor patios. Tables and chairs are available so you may relax and enjoy the beautiful view looking out onto the bayou wilderness just behind the hacienda!
