Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

Description

The spectacular red sandstone formations that gave Red Rock Canyon its name are well seen throughout the Las Vegas Valley. This area was first settled by Native Americans more than 3,500 years ago. Petroglyphs and other remnants of their early settlements can still be found here. The Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area encompasses 197,000 acres within the Mojave Desert. Visitors can drive a 13-mile scenic loop that winds through the north part of the park, or spend a day exploring several hiking trails. Driving cross country is prohibited.
