Red Rock Canyon National Conservation AreaDescriptionThe spectacular red sandstone formations that gave Red Rock Canyon its name are well seen throughout the Las Vegas Valley. This area was first settled by Native Americans more than 3,500 years ago. Petroglyphs and other remnants of their early settlements can still be found here. The Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area encompasses 197,000 acres within the Mojave Desert. Visitors can drive a 13-mile scenic loop that winds through the north part of the park, or spend a day exploring several hiking trails. Driving cross country is prohibited. The Visitor's Center provides information about wildlife and flora of the area, as well as Native American history.

Operating HoursThe Visitor's Center hours are 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
The Scenic Drive hours are: November 1 through February 28/29 6 a.m. – 5 p.m. March 1 through March 31 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. April 1 through September 30 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. October 1 through October 31 6 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Getting ThereRed Rock Canyon is located about 17 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip. From Las Vegas it can be approached from Charleston Boulevard (north of Sahara Avenue), which will turn into State Route 159; or from State Route 160 (south of Tropicana) to the Junction with Route 159. Just follow Route 159 until you see the entrance.
