Cholar Mansion Bed & Breakfast

Description

In its Federalist style architecture, the Chollar Mansion boasts 16-inch thick brick walls, 14-foot high ceilings, and a three-story cantilever staircase with a Honduran Rosewood banister. The mansion is furnished in period authentic Eastlake-style antiques from the 1860s through 1890s, as well as Art Deco furnishings from the 1930s. Guests may stay in either the Requa Suite or the O’Connell Suite within the mansion, or the separate and secluded Chollar Cottage.

A stay at the Chollar Mansion Bed & Breakfast offers guests the adventure and variety of numerous year round local attractions and cultural events. Virginia City and northwestern Nevada offer enjoyable attractions – all within a one-hour drive of the Chollar Mansion: The Nevada State Museum, Railroad Museum, and State Capitol in Carson City; The National Automobile Museum (The Harrah Collection), numerous casinos and
restaurants in Reno and Sparks; winter skiing and snowboarding at the many Lake Tahoe-area ski resorts; summer canoeing, kayaking, and tour boat rides on Lake Tahoe; Naval Air Station Fallon, home of the Navy’s “Top Gun” Fighter Weapons School and of course, Virginia City’s own Chollar Mine, Virginia & Truckee Railroad, Bucket of Blood Saloon, Piper’s Opera House, and the Fourth Ward School.

Guests may enjoy the a grand vista of up to eighty miles down Six Mile Canyon to the Forty Mile Desert and the mountain ranges beyond. Private historical tours of the mansion are available for guests only. The parlor also offers a large library with many books on Virginia City and the West, which guests are encouraged to browse through during their stay. Guests will delight in starting each day with a satisfying, family-style meal, which is included in the price. All rooms have private baths.

The Requa Suite, on the second floor, features a charming, spacious bedroom with king-size bed and an elegant parlor decorated with late-1800s Eastlake style antique furniture.

The O’Connell Suite, on the first floor, is an airy, cheerful bedroom, decorated in 1930s Art Deco furnishings with king-size bed. It also features a private entrance, cozy parlor, and quaint window seat.

The Chollar Cottage was originally built in 1870 as a playhouse for Marc Requa. It’s 800 square feet features a quaint, romantic bedroom with queen-size bed, and a parlor furnished in late 1800s Eastlake style antiques.

The Chollar Mansion also boasts a Men’s Parlor, handsomely furnished in Eastlake style antiques, for guests to enjoy reading, visiting, or playing board games.
