Millyard MuseumDescriptionThe Manchester Historic Association's Millyard Museum is located in Mill No. 3 at the corner of Commercial and Pleasant Streets. The Museum presents the permanent exhibit, Woven in Time: 11,000 Years at Amoskeag Falls, which traces the history of Manchester and tells about the people who have lived and worked there. The story starts with the Native Americans who fished at Amoskeag Falls 11,000 years ago. It continues through the early farmers and craftsmen to the great number of workers who made the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company the world's biggest manufacturer of cotton textiles. The story finishes in the 21st century, as new businesses prosper in the Millyard and new groups of immigrants come to Manchester to live and work.
The exhibit demonstrates items from the MHA's collection that have never been on exhibit, as well as some "old favorites" like the Torrent # 5 fire pumper and the neon sign from Sundial Shoes. There are activity stations for children, videos, a model of the Millyard, looms from the mills, an animated interpretation of how water power works and a re-creation of Elm Street on a Thursday night, fitted up with lighted arches, "cobblestone" street, different stores and the State Theater.
