Strawbery Banke MuseumDescriptionStep over the gates of history to life in New Hampshire's oldest seacoast section. Discover life from the late 1600s to the 1950s in this neighborhood known as Puddle Dock. The place, known today as Strawbery Banke Museum, offers a look into the everyday lives of everyday people who called this area home for nearly four centuries.
Named by the first settlers in 1630 for the abundance of wild berries found on the shores of the Piscataqua River, Strawbery Banke is noble with history: George Washington, Daniel Webster, John Paul Jones and John Hancock were all guests on this location.
The amicable lanes will lead you through the centuries of time. Stop at appointed historic houses to experience household changes and connectedness; join costumed role-players as they get round their daily lives and solemnize holiday traditions; relax in the shade of award-winning period gardens and experience the link between inside and outside living spaces; find out the importance of conservation and restoration through the story of how this 10 acre site was saved from urban reconstruction in the 1950s.
Year-round education programs for children, students and adults are available. Strawbery Banke Museum has a remarkable Museum Shop and information center.
