Metro Lyric OperaDescriptionThe Metro Lyric Opera and the Monmouth Opera Guild were founded 46 years ago by Era Tognoli. Under Mme. Tognoli’s guidance, the Metro Lyric Opera has become one of the leading regional opera companies in the United States, and is the oldest active opera company in New Jersey. The Metro Lyric Opera engages artists from the Metropolitan and New York City Opera companies, as well as La Scala, the Bolshoi Opera, and other leading opera companies. Chances are also given to young bright talent who have achieved an advanced level of artistry. In fact, many of the young artists who have been engaged by the M.L.O. have gone on to sing with the Metropolitan and New York City Opera companies, as well as on the Broadway musical stage.
The success of the M.L.O. can be imputed to its philosophy of presenting opera in the traditional manner, within a standard of excellency at popular prices, making it accessible to the general public.
Getting ThereThe Paramount Theatre is located on Sunset and Ocean Avenues in Asbury Park, sharing the boardwalk with Convention Hall. There is plenty of on-street parking in proximity of the theatre. Sunset Avenue is located directly off Route 35 in Wanamassa, just north of the dual traffic circles in Ocean Township.
From the North: Take the Garden State Parkway South to Exit #102 for Neptune, Asbury Park (just past the toll plaza). Go right at the end of the exit ramp toward Asbury Park. At second light, road merges with Route 66 (storage facility on opposite side of road). At the end of Route 66, go around traffic circle, onto Route 35 North. The sign will say Eatontown, Ft. Monmouth (Do NOT head toward second circle which says Asbury Park!). At second traffic light on Route 35 North, make a right onto Sunset Avenue (furniture store on right, Burger King on opposite side of road). Follow Sunset all the way to the end. Building will be right in front of you.
