Salem Sue: World's Largest Holstein CowDescriptionLocated on "School Hill" between the New Salem and I-94 Highway, the cow (38 feet high and 50 feet long) is plainly visible for 5 miles. It was constructed for the New Salem Lions Club by Sculpture Mfg. Co. of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, moved to New Salem in 3 parts and raised on New Salem Park District lands. The overall cost of the operation was around $40,000 contributed by dairymen, farmers, businessmen, dairy industry and residents of the area.
"Salem Sue" is famous around the world. She continues to be advertised and maintained by the New Salem Lions. She also helps to better tourism, business and serves to educate and interest young people in the science of animal farming and the advantages of qualities of living in a rural community.
