The Hygeia HouseThe Hygeia House is situated high on a hill overlooking both harbors. Lately restored Hygeia House has ten rooms; each includes a private bath and water view. On the water and just steps from the beach, the Hygeia House offers tranquility in a fabulous location. Like many guests you can just grab a rocking chair on one of the porches and watch island life pass by. Continental breakfast is served daily, and kayak rentals are available.
The building is now "modernized" with bathrooms, electricity and efficient heating, but it continues to honor the past and has become something of a museum honoring the generations of Champlins who are so much a part of its history.
Much of the original furniture remains in the inn, enhancing the authenticity of the experience. You will find original portraits that grace the walls in guest rooms named for specific family members. You will also be able to see Dr. Champlin's medical bags and school papers in the room named for him, and in the room named for Bella, his daughter, you will find letters she wrote at the turn of the century.
Visiting this place is both interesting and relaxing...
