 The Hygeia House was built in 1883; it served as both the homestead and practice of Dr. John C. Champlin, one of the island's most successful hoteliers and also the island's only physician. In 1999 the building was purchased and fully restored by Champlin Starr, the great grandson of Dr. Champlin, and his wife Lisa.
