Roger Williams Park Zoo In Roger Williams Park Zoo you will meet hundreds of rare and fascinating animals from around the world, such as polar bears, snow leopards, moon bears, giraffes and elephants all in naturalistic settings. You will be able to see all zoo's population that numbers over 1000 animals, with some 139 different species on display at any given time.
Today, awareness and appreciation of wildlife serve as major goals of Roger Williams Park Zoo. Zoo staff currently perform conservation fieldwork around the world with many endangered species, by which you will find the black howler monkeys of Belize, tree kangaroos of Papua, New Guinea and the American Burying Beetle.
But there is another surprising thing! Roger Williams Park Zoo is one of over 200 zoos in the country that are accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA). The Zoo is a partner in the Species Survival Plan (SSP) that is administered by AZA. The zoo cares for 18 SSP species, which means they are part of a national system of research, record-keeping and breeding. Without this human intervention, many of these species would face certain extinction.
