Crazy Horse MemorialDescriptionThe Crazy Horse Memorial is a mountain monument in progress, located in the Black Hills of South Dakota. It is named after the warrior Crazy Horse, who led the Oglala Sioux (now Lakota) at the battle of Little Bighorn in 1876. The sculpture of the great Indian warrior is being carved out of Thunderhead Mountain on land considered sacred by Native Americans. The sculpture was begun in 1948 by Korczak Ziolkowski. It will be the world's largest sculpture, when completed - final dimensions will be 641 feet wide and 563 feet high. Today visitors of the Crazy Horse Memorial can see the model of the future monument. The memorial includes also the Indian Museum of North America, and the Native American Cultural Center.
