Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower CenterDescriptionImagine a location where everything is in its place. A location where the gardens, pathways, and architecture glorify the natural and cultural inheritance of the Texas Hill Country. A place where people learn to respect land and to appreciate the natural beauty, economic value, and environmental need of native plants. This place is the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
The Wildflower Center was founded in 1982 by Lady Bird Johnson and Helen Hayes and has expanded steadily to become one of North America's leading environmental establishments. At the same time, the village headquarters in Austin, Texas - covering 279 acres and displaying over 500 species of native plants - has become a famous destination for knowledge-seeking gardeners and nature-loving people.
The Wildflower Center is much more than a botanical institution - it is a place that connects people and the natural world, a place that encourages understanding and appreciation of natural heritage, provides good ecological citizenship and works to secure a sustainable ecological future.
