Art Museum of South TexasDescriptionThe Art Museum of South Texas was designed by renowned architect Philip Johnson and completed in 1972. From its opening, the glistening white construction has served as a landmark on the Corpus Christi Bayfront and a heart of the downtown museum district.
Containing three levels, around 12,000 of the building's 30,000 square feet belong to galleries. The lowest level, situated at the level of the sea, holds classrooms, studios, a library, and storage and work areas. The next level, the main entrance, confronts the Bayfront Arts and Science Park and contains galleries, a gift shop, an auditorium, and pretty kids' playroom. A 60-foot catwalk is stretched above the main level, and leads to a sky-lit gallery on the 3rd level. Decorated totally of white building materials, the Museum appears to radiate the powerful South Texas warmth and light.
