Fort Buenaventura ParkDescriptionFort Buenaventura was the first permanent Anglo settlement in the Great Basin. It was built in 1846 by fur trapper and horse trader Miles Goodyear. Today, the reconstructed fort shows what life was like in decades prior to the railroad era. The park features a replica of an 1846 fort and trading post, ponds, canoes for rent, a picnic area, and a pleasant campground. A 2-mile hiking trail meanders around the park. Rangers lead tours of the fort. The visitor center displays American Indian artifacts typical of the area.
