The Vermont Historical Society Museum is preserving the past for use by present and future generations. It collects various artifacts dating from the pre-contact period to the present for interpretation and research. Using these artifacts, items from the Society's library and materials taken from individuals and institutions, it presents exhibitions on different aspects of Vermont history in galleries on the first floor of the Pavilion Building in Montpelier.
Getting thereThe VHS museum and museum store are located on the first floor of the Pavilion Building at 109 State Street next door to the Vermont State House in Montpelier. The VHS offices and library are located in nearby Barre, Vermont. We have a list of places to stay in Barre, Berlin, and Montpelier.
Directions:
We are just off I-89. Take exit 8 and turn left on to Taylor Street before the Sunoco station at the third traffic light (the first one is usually blinking). After you cross the bridge, turn right into the public parking lot. Deposit six quarters into the ticket dispensing machine, put the ticket on your dash, and find a parking place. Walk down Taylor toward State Street. We are in the brick building on the far side of State Street. The side and back doors are handicapped accessible; restrooms are located by the side entrance. There is additional metered parking on State Street. Buses can let students off on Gov. Davis Avenue and then park in the Taylor Street lot.
