Seattle Art MuseumDescriptionThe five-story building of the Seattle Art Museum, designed by Robert Venturi, is a work of art in itself: large-scale vertical fluting adorns the building's limestone exterior, accented by terra-cotta, cut granite, and marble. Sculptor Jonathan Borofsky's Hammering Man, an animated three-story steel sculpture, pounds out a silent beat in front of the museum. Seattle Art Museum houses one of the nation's premier collections of Northwest Coast Indian art and an equally large collection of African art. The museum also presents European and American art ranging from ancient Mediterranean works to pieces from the medieval and Renaissance, and baroque periods. Free guided tours of the different collections are offered.
