Augusta Heritage CenterDescriptionAugusta's purposes are to encourage wider understanding of traditional folk cultures, Dincluding West Virginia’s folklife and folkways and accomplish the above through workshops, apprenticeships, and public presentations.
The Center is best known for its intensive weeklong workshops that attract more than 2,000 participants every year. Thousands more attend public concerts, dances, and festivals.
Other year-round activities include folklife research and documentation, statewide West Virginia Folk Arts Apprenticeship program, programs for young people, and the production of films and audio recordings for a national audience.
An integral part of Davis & Elkins College for over 30 years, Augusta Heritage Center is located in Darby Hall, close to two of the college’s 115-year-old historic landmark buildings: Graceland Inn and Halliehurst Hall. Our full-time staff of seven, plus volunteers, part-time staff, and work/study students, work all year producing a variety of programs.
Augusta’s world-renowned workshops, festivals, and apprenticeships, have brought together master artists, musicians, dancers, and enthusiasts of all ages.
Augusta-sponsored activities such as “Pickin’ in the Park” enrich the quality of life in the Elkins area year-round.
