It's a common knowledge that the amusement park industry has had several legendary parks during its history - parks that are held in special esteem and looked upon with fond memories or special reverence. Many of them come to mind when we think about it, but the one on the top of nearly everyone's list is Coney Island Park. Coney Island is famous for being the name of the New York resort that was the center of the amusement park universe in the early part of the century. It is also the name of the famed amusement park in Cincinnati, which is regarded by many as one of the best operated amusement parks in history. Visit the Park and you will see it by yourself! The Symphony Hotel was built in 1871 by Peter Ehrgott, a German lithographer. He commissioned architect James W. McLaughlin, probably the most important architect, who had been born in Cincinnati during the second half of the 19th century. In 1874 Peter Ehrgott died and his oldest son, Louis Ehrgott, purchased the property from heirs. Also, for some fifty years he and his wife used the property as a boarding house for students at the College of Music.
